Fire F Rolfe named MLS Player of the Week

Oct 27, 2008 - 8:55 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Chicago Fire forward Chris Rolfe was named the MLS Player of the Week on Monday.

Rolfe scored three goals and added two assists in Thursday's 5-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls.

His performance began in the 11th minute when he finished off a quick counter attack by heading in a cross from teammate Stephen King.

Rolfe struck again in the 38th minute. Cuauhtemoc Blanco drove a corner kick into the box that was cleared just outside of the penalty area. Rolfe controlled the ball off his chest, and struck a full, 22-yard volley into the top left corner of the goal.

In the 44th minute, Blanco sent a back heel pass to a charging Rolfe, who collected the pass and calmly placed the ball inside the left post, avoiding oncoming Red Bull goalkeeper Danny Cepero. Rolfe's 33-minute hat trick was the second quickest in club history.

Now in his fourth MLS season, the 25-year old from Kettering, Ohio has scored 30 career goals. He led the Fire with nine goals in 2008.
