Red Bulls F Angel named MLS Player of Month

Nov 4, 2008 - 12:17 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New York Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel on Monday was named MLS Player of the Month for October.

Angel recorded three goals and one assist during the final month of the regular season as the Red Bulls gained the final wild card berth and qualified for the MLS Cup playoffs.

The 33-year-old's best performance came on October 18 when he scored two second-half goals in New York's 3-1 triumph over the Columbus Crew. He finished the month strong with a goal in a match-high nine shots in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Fire in the season finale.

Angel led the Red Bulls in scoring for the second consecutive season with 14 goals.

After capturing the honor twice last season, it's Angel's first MLS Player of the Month honor this campaign.
