Galaxy F Donovan to join Bayern Munich on loan
Jan 5, 2009 - 10:25 PM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement that will allow forward Landon Donovan to join the German Bundesliga club on loan.Donovan will join Bayern Munich immediately and return to the Galaxy on March 8, two weeks before the MLS club opens its regular season.
Donovan, 26, scored a career-high 20 goals last season to lead the MLS, while also adding nine assists in 25 games.
While he has excelled in the MLS, Donovan also has made his mark on the international stage as the all-time leading scorer in U.S. National Team history with 37 goals in 106 appearances.
Donovan, who began his pro career with fellow German club Bayer Leverkusen, has 84 goals and 69 assists in 183 MLS games.
Bayern Munich currently is tied for first place with TSG Hoffenheim at the halfway stage of the Bundesliga season. The club is on winter break before returning to action on Friday, January 30 against Hamburg.
