Galaxy signs M Griffin, re-signs a pair

Jan 7, 2009 - 11:44 PM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday signed midfielder Leonard Griffin and re-signed a pair of veterans - goalkeeper Steve Cronin and defender Jovan Kirovski.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Griffin, a former 11th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft, had trouble catching on in the MLS in two previous stints with the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew. He has spent the last two seasons with the Portland Timbers of the USL First Division, registering two goals in 58 appearances.

The 26-year-old veteran trained with the Galaxy near the end of the 2008 campaign.

Cronin was Los Angeles' starting goalkeeper for most of last season, compiling a 6-9-6 record with a 2.05 goals-against average in 22 starts.

Kirovski was just acquired by the club in November in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes. The 32-year-old forward has played 118 games over his MLS career, posting 24 goals and 10 assists. He spent 2004 and most of 2005 with the Galaxy before being dealt to Colorado.

The Galaxy also released defender Eduardo Dominguez, who started two games for the team last year.
