Inter Milan star Adriano banned three matches
Jan 26, 2009 - 4:33 PM MILAN, Italy (Ticker) -- Inter Milan striker Adriano received a three-match suspension Monday for his violent conduct in this past weekend's game against Sampdoria. The Italian Football League penalized Adriano after reviewing video images that showed the Brazilian punching defender Daniele Gastaldello in the stomach during Sunday's 1-0 victory over Sampdoria.
The referee failed to witness the incident, which occurred in the penalty area.
Adriano scored the game's only goal just before halftime to provide Inter with the victory and give the side a three-point lead atop the Serie A standings. The big Brazilian has struggled through an inconsistent season during which he has drawn the ire of coach Jose Mourinho.
Adriano will miss games at Catania, Torino and Lecce but will be eligible to return in time for the Milan Derby on February 15.
