Raul sets Real Madrid scoring record
Feb 15, 2009 - 5:19 PM GIJON, Spain (Ticker) -- Raul Gonzalez became Real Madrid's all-time scoring leader Sunday, collecting his 308th career goal in the Spanish powerhouse's contest against Sporting Gijon.The 31-year-old Raul reached the impressive milestone in the 15th minute of the contest, breaking the record previously held by the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano.
The immensely popular Raul, who has spent his entire 15-year career with Real Madrid, needed 504 competitive matches to set the record. Di Stefano reached the mark in 401 matches.
It was the 10th goal this season for Raul, who drilled a left-footed shot off Sergio Ramos' crossing feed.
The all-time leading scorer in the Champions' League, Raul has 215 career goals in Spanish League play.
