Charles powers Liberty past Dream in season opener
Jun 6, 2015 - 2:29 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tina Charles led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds as the New York Liberty opened the WNBA regular season with an 82-73 victory over the Atlanta Dream.Swin Cash scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench, while Tanisha Wright and Brittany Boyd each netted 14 for the Liberty, who won their first game under controversial new team president Isiah Thomas.
Protestors gathered outside of Madison Square Garden against the hiring of Thomas, who was accused of sexual harassment in a 2007 lawsuit.
Angel McCoughtry finished with 27 points and eight boards for Atlanta. Tiffany Hayes scored 17 points in the loss.
The Liberty held a 51-38 lead at halftime and led by as much as 17 points in the near wire-to-win.
