MINNEAPOLIS(AP) -- The Minnesota Lynx are bringing star point guard Lindsay Whalen back home.

A person with knowledge of the trade tells The Associated Press that the Lynx have agreed to trade point guard Renee Montgomery and the No. 1 overall draft pick to the Connecticut Sun for Whalen and the No. 2 overall draft choice.

The person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the trade has yet to be announced. Both teams have scheduled news conferences for 3 p.m. Eastern.

Whalen starred at the University of Minnesota and led the Golden Gophers to the 2004 Final Four.

Montgomery is getting a homecoming as well. She helped UConn to a national championship last season.

The deal was first reported by The Day of New London, Conn., newspaper.
