Mercury re-signs head coach Corey Gaines
Feb 3, 2010 - 10:16 PM PHOENIX(AP) -- Phoenix Mercury coach Corey Gaines, who guided the team to its second WNBA championship in three years last season, has been re-signed to a one-year contract.Mercury general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale announced the deal Wednesday but didn't disclose any financial details.
Gaines spent two years as an assistant under former coach Paul Westhead, including Phoenix's first title season in 2007. Gaines was promoted to head coach in November 2007 after Westhead left to join the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics.
The Mercury open their 2010 season May 15 at home against Los Angeles.
