Sun ink Spencer to two-year deal
Feb 28, 2012 - 7:25 PM Uncasville, CT (Sports Network) - The Connecticut Sun have signed guard Sidney Spencer to a two-year contract.Spencer averaged 2.5 points in 16 games for the New York Liberty last season.
Originally selected out of Tennessee by the Los Angeles Sparks with the 25th overall pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft, Spencer has averaged 4.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 144 career games (24 starts) with the Sparks, Mercury and Liberty. She is also a 41.8-percent shooter from three-point range.
"She can shoot the three and she can play three and four (small and power forward), so she forces defenses to make uncomfortable decisions because of her shooting ability," Sun head coach Mike Thibault said of Spencer. "She's a great chemistry player who understands team above everything else. She's got leadership ability, and she enhances team chemistry because of her understanding of the little things that go into winning."
