Meadors to coach Atlanta's WNBA team

Nov 28, 2007 - 3:53 PM ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Atlanta's WNBA team is still seeking a name, but it does now have a coach.

Marynell Meadors was on Tuesday named coach and general manager of the expansion franchise.

Meadors is one of the eight original coaches in the WNBA, having guided the Charlotte Sting from 1997-99.

Meadors spent the last three seasons as coach of the Washington Mystics. Prior to working in the WNBA, she coached at the collegiate level, collecting more than 500 wins at Tennessee Tech and Florida State.

"Coaching basketball has been my passion for nearly four decades and I'm grateful to once again have the opportunity to be a WNBA head coach and general manager," Meadors said.

"Starting a franchise certainly has its challenged by my experiences with the Sting and the Miami Sol tells me that success is possible from the very beginning. We have a lot of work in front of us and a short time to get it done."

Meadors' first task will be to stock her roster. Atlanta has the fourth pick in the 2008 draft and will also get its pick from the league in an upcoming expansion draft.
