Silver Stars sign G Hammon

Mar 11, 2008 - 6:39 PM SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Silver Stars on Tuesday signed All-Star guard Becky Hammon to a contract extension through the 2011 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Last season, Hammon became the first player in WNBA history to earn a starting spot on both the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star teams. She averaged 18.8 points and 5.0 rebounds and was the runner-up in the Most Valuable Player voting.

Hammon spent the first eight years of career with the New York Liberty before being dealt to the Silver Stars last year in a draft day deal.

"We are thrilled to have Becky as part of the Silver Stars for several years," San Antonio coach and general manager Dan Hughes.

In another move, the Silver Stars signed center Ruth Riley to a two-year extension. Riley was acquired from the Detroit Shock before the start of last season.

A former All-Star, the 6-5 Riley owns a rare trifecta, having won an NCAA championship (Notre Dame 2001), Olympic gold medal (Athens 2004) and two WNBA titles (Detroit 2003, 2006).
