Griffith joins revamped Storm lineup
Apr 9, 2008 - 12:44 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle Storm have just added another former MVP to their revamped lineup with the signing of center Yolanda Griffith on Tuesday.Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Yolanda brings a career's worth of championship experience in winning environments to our team," Seattle coach Brian Agler said. "Her size and stability in the middle will certainly complement our current roster of players. We feel very good with Yolanda on our roster heading into training camp."
Griffith with be joining Sheryl Swoopes (2002, 2005) and Lauren Jackson (2003) in the Storm's frontcourt that now features three former league MVPs. Griffith earned the award in 1999.
"I'm very excited to join the Storm this season and make a run at another championship for the city of Seattle," Griffith said. "I am looking forward to playing with the great roster of players that coach Agler has put together in the offseason."
The 6-3 Griffith owns career averages of 14.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in nine seasons - all with the Sacramento Monarchs. She also ranks in the top 10 all-time in five statistical categories, including points (4,002) and boards (2,248).
Griffith, Swoopes and Jackson also have something in common as all three have captured at least one WNBA title.
