Jones, Sun hand Dream their 14th straight loss
Jun 28, 2008 - 2:42 AM By PA SportsTickerUNCASVILLE, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Asjha Jones scored eight of her 30 points in overtime as the Connecticut Sun handed the expansion Atlanta Dream their WNBA-record 14th consecutive defeat with a 109-101 victory on Friday night.
Becky Lennox collected a career-high 44 points with nine rebounds for the Dream (0-14), who tied the now defunct Portland Fire for the most consecutive losses in WNBA history and broke the record for straight setbacks in a single season.
Lennox's performance tied Cynthia Cooper for third-place on the league's single-game scoring list.
Tamika Whitmore, who finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds, snapped a 96-96 tie with 1:32 remaining by making the first of her two free throws. After missing her second attempt, Whitmore grabbed the rebound and converted a three-point play to give the Eastern Conference-leading Sun (12-4) a 100-96 edge.
Lindsay Whalen added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Connecticut, which used Whitemore's three-point play to go on an 11-0 run and seal the win.
