UNCASVILLE, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Diana Taurasi scored 25 points and Tangela Smith added 21 and 11 rebounds to lead the Phoenix Mercury to an 87-80 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.
Cappie Pondexter had 16 points and eight assists for the Mercury (7-7), who have won three straight contests.
Phoenix held a 27-16 lead after the first quarter and never trailed for the rest of the game.
Asjha Jones had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead four players in double figures for the Sun (12-5).
DETROIT 100, ATLANTA 92: At Detroit, Kara Braxton scored 26 points and Katie Smith added 24 to help the Shock send the winless Dream to their WNBA-record 15th consecutive defeat.
Atlanta got within 96-93 on a three-point play by Ivory Latta with 56 seconds to play, but Deanna Nolan, who finished with 18 points, buried a jumper 15 seconds later to lift the Shock (12-5) into a tie with Connecticut atop the Eastern Conference.
Tamera Young scored 26 points and Betty Lennox added 22 for the Dream (0-15), which connected on 14-of-28 3-point attempts.
SEATTLE 64, WASHINGTON 49: At Seattle, Sue Bird had 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds to guide the Storm past the Mystics.
Lauren Jackson added 13 points and was joined in double figures by Sheryl Swoopes and Swin Cash with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Seattle (9-7), which improved to 8-1 at home.
Alana Beard scored 16 points for Washington (6-9), which shot 34 percent (19-of-56) from the floor.
