Monarchs re-sign F Walker
Jul 21, 2008 - 4:31 PM SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Monarchs decided to bring back DeMya Walker, re-signing the fast-healing forward Monday.Walker had been a free agent since the middle of May when Sacramento waived her in the wake of suffering a patella fracture in her right knee on April 27 when playing for Russian club Nadezhda. The 30-year-old underwent surgery on May 2 and was expected to be sidelined for six months.
However, Walker made great strides in her rehabilitation, getting cleared by team doctors to play the remainder of the WNBA season.
"I am honored and blessed to be back with the Monarchs," Walker said. "I know my faith in God along with my family and the organization's faith in me, including the fans' support, is the reason I was able to recover so quickly."
Walker also suffered a knee injury the year before, limiting her to five games with Sacramento while scoring 8.8 points and 5.0 rebounds.
In eight seasons with Portland and Sacramento, Walker has averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 200 career games.
