Sparks sign C Dydek

Aug 27, 2008 - 9:26 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Sparks added the tallest player in WNBA history Wednesday, signing 7-2 center Margo Dydek.

Dydek, who has not played this season after giving birth, holds the league record with 811 blocks in 289 games.

"Margo is a veteran who brings experience and solid defensive presence to our frontcourt," Sparks coach Michael Cooper said. "She's a good, seasoned vet that can block shots, rebound and finish."

A 10-year veteran, Dydek was selected first overall by the Utah Starzz in the 1998 draft. She has career averages of 10.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks.

"I know what the team stands for and understand that the goal is to win a third championship this year," said Dydek, a Poland native. "Coach Cooper has explained why I'm here and my role on the team, and I'm looking forward to fulfilling that role."
