Bird, Storm grab first place in Western Conference
Sep 5, 2008 - 5:43 AM By PA SportsTickerCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Sue Bird scored 19 points and Camille Little added 13 as the Seattle Storm moved into first place in the Western Conference with a 70-62 victory over the Chicago Sky on Thursday.
Yolanda Griffith collected 10 points and six rebounds for the Storm (20-10), who are one-half game ahead of the San Antonio Silver Stars (19-10) in the West.
An Olympic gold medalist last month with Team USA at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Bird continued her stellar play in this one, shooting 8-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-5 from the arc.
Jia Perkins scored 22 points for the Sky (11-18), who had their three-game winning streak snapped and are three games behind the Indiana Fever (14-15) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with five games remaining.
