LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- While Lisa Leslie was the best player on the floor for the Los Angeles Sparks, Candace Parker now is one step closer to being one of the most accomplished performers of all time.
Leslie scored 22 points and Parker added 14 and 12 rebounds as the Sparks set the tone for the best-of-three Western Conference finals with an 85-70 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars in Game One.
Marie Ferdinand-Harris and Temeka Johnson each scored 14 points for Los Angeles, which erased a nine-point first-quarter deficit by outscoring San Antonio, 31-13, in the second to take control of the game.
Game Two will be Saturday in San Antonio, where the Silver Stars posted a 15-2 mark this season.
Los Angeles was paced by Leslie, who shot 9-of-13 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Parker was 6-of-12 from the floor.
The top overall pick in this past April's draft, Parker has set her sights on a championship, which would make her the first woman to earn an NCAA title, an Olympic gold medal and a WNBA championship. The rookie phenom claimed two titles in college at Tennessee and a gold as an Olympian this summer in Beijing.
Ann Wauters scored 18 points for the Silver Stars.
No one has shouted yet.
