Monarchs F Walker undergoes surgery
Dec 4, 2008 - 1:35 AM SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Sacramento Monarchs forward DeMya Walker underwent a second surgery on her right patella Wednesday to remove a broken screw from a previous procedure.A former fifth overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Dispersal Draft, Walker was playing overseas in Poland with CCC Polkowice before further evaluation showed there was a broken screw from the first surgery. Wednesday's procedure was done by Monarchs team Dr. Kirk Lewis.
Walker originally fractured the patella in her right knee while playing for the Russian squad Nadezhda on April 27. After having surgery to repair the damage on May 2, she returned to the court on July 21 and played the rest of the 2008 season.
The eight-year veteran was selected to the 2005 WNBA All-Star team and was a member of the Monarchs 2005 WNBA championship team. She has career averages of 8.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
