Seth Lugo took the mound in the series finale and deciding game against the Blue Jays and twirled a gem, striking out 8 over 7.0 innings of 1-run ball. The Royals offense broke through in the 6th inning when Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez, and Michael Massey drove in a run each in a three-run rally. Massey broke the game open in the 8th with a 3-run blast, his second in as many games, which was more than enough breathing room for Chris Stratton and Nick Anderson to secure the win in the series finale and give the Royals a series win and wrap up a .500 road trip.

KAN 6, TOR 1Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker start the pre-game show with some takeaways on the Jays’ 4-1 loss to the Royals yesterday before being joined by Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi. Later, they chat about how the Jays’ batters have attacked the fastball this season and their biggest concerns when it comes to the order.
After dropping the series opener, the Royals turned to their ace Cole Ragans to even the series. Ragans answered the bell, throwing a season-high 6.2 innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 9. Michael Massey belted his first home run of the year in support of Ragans, a two-run blast that put the Royals on the board and gave them a lead they never relinquished. Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino expanded the lead with back-to-back RBI doubles. John Schreiber and James McArthur covered the final 2.1 innings after Ragans' departure, each turning in scoreless outings to preserve the lead and give the Royals their 17th win of April, setting a new franchise record for wins in the month.

04/29/2024: After tying the game with his first home run at Rogers Centre as Blue Jay in the first inning, Justin Turner followed it up during his next at bat with another home run, his first multi-homer game since 06/16/2023, to give Toronto the lead. Two batters later, on his jersey and glasses giveaway night, Danny Jansen sends a home run to the seats in left-centerfield for his first home run of the season. Rookie Addison Barger tallied a couple of his Major League firsts, recording his first career hit and then being driven in by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as the game-winning run for his time touching home plate.
KAN 5, TOR 6Hall of Famer and former Blue Jays left fielder (if only for three months) Rickey Henderson turns 65 today (which makes me feel old). He might have been a Blue Jay for only three months, but it was long enough to earn one of his two World Series rings.
