Heat sign Jones Jr., waive Williams Jr.

    The Miami Heat signed forward-guard Derrick Jones Jr. to a two-way contract and waived guard Matt Williams Jr. on Sunday.

    Terms of Jones Jr.'s deal were not disclosed by the team.

    Jones Jr. averaged 15.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.88 blocks, 1.8 assists, 1.19 steals and 29.1 minutes while shooting 48.5 percent in 16 games (11 starts) with the Phoenix Suns' G League affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns, this season.

    He also totaled nine points, four rebounds, four blocks, three assists and a steal in 33 minutes over six games with Phoenix.

    Williams Jr. totaled five points and one rebound in 11 minutes over three games with the Heat this season. He also averaged 9.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 30.3 minutes in 16 games (all starts) with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League.
