Top 3 NBA Summer League Betting Odds & Picks for Monday (7/11)

    NBA -

The Dog Days of Summer have officially arrived, as that dead part of the sports betting calendar where basketball is over and football is not yet here plagues us all. For those like myself who can’t come around to the idea of betting on baseball, the NBA Summer League is going on out in Las Vegas and offers plenty of action for those interested.

Let’s take a look at a few matchups I’m looking at for tonight’s slate.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Atlanta Hawks

Trey Murphy III led all Pelicans’ scorers in their game on Saturday, as the University of Virginia product looks to solidify himself in a rotation that should make some noise this fall. For the Hawks, Justin Tillman scored 12 points off the bench in Atlanta’s 66-72 loss to the Jazz Saturday, as the G-League star needs a good summer to make the Hawks’ opening-night roster.

With both teams searching for their first Summer League win, I like the Hawks to get it done with more players in desperate need of strong performances.

Bet: Hawks ML (+175 at DraftKings

Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Rockets picked up their first win of the summer on Saturday, as Josh Christopher led all scorers (19) in their 90-88 win. For the Spurs, a loss last night against the Warriors gave them their second straight defeat, as they attempt to pick up the pieces with the recent trade of cornerstone player Dejounte Murray.

Now playing the second of a back-to-back, I expect the Spurs to fade late and the Rockets to pick up their second straight win (and cover). I also think the Rockets entered the Summer League with much to prove, as talks of tanking last season clouded the team throughout the year.

Bet: Rockets -4.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Orlando Magic vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

In what will likely be one of the most-watched games of Summer League, the teams with the two top picks in June’s NBA Draft will face off tonight. Already, the Magic seem to have made the right choice with Paulo Banchero, as the Duke product dropped a game-high 23 in his second contest on Saturday vs. the Kings.

With Chet Holmgren more of a meme than a viable basketball player to this point, I like for the Magic to get the better of the Thunder tonight in Las Vegas.

Bet: Magic -1.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
