In the first quarter, Purdie hit Chis Brown for a 32-yard touchdown and then later in the quarter, he connected with Micah Mays Jr. for a 52-yard touchdown.

Cal was able to push around Oregon State and outgained them 122-65 in rushing yards. True freshman quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele completed 20 of 30 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball twice for 30 yards. Wide receiver Trond Grizzell caught five passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Running back Brandon High Jr. ran the ball 10 times for 41 yards and a touchdown. In his Oregon State debut, Maalik Murphy threw for 244 yards and ran for 15 yards and a touchdown. Trent Walker caught nine passes for 136 yards.

The two former Pac 12 rivals have played every season since 1995, with the Golden Bears defeating the Beavers, 44-7 last season. Each team looks very different from last season, with Cal returning just seven starters and Oregon State returning only three starters. Both teams will also be breaking in new quarterbacks in the season opener. For the Golden Bears, true freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele won the quarterback battle out of camp. Sagapolutele is just the second true freshman to ever start at quarterback for Cal, with the other being Jared Goff in 2013. For Oregon State, they will be starting Maalik Murphy, a transfer quarterback who passed for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns for Duke in 2024. Oregon State was lined up for a 37-yard field goal to cut into Cal's 28-point lead, put a Golden Bears' defender got a hand on the ball, and the kick was blocked, never reaching the end zone.
