It was a safety by the Virginia defense with 2:45 left in the game that proved to be the difference. Quarterback Chandler Morris threw for 179 yards on 15-25 passing and had 15 yards rushing. Wide receiver Jahmal Edrine caught five passes for 102 yards. For Washington State, wide receiver Joshua Meredith caught seven passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.
WST 20, UVA 22The Virginia defense kept the Cavaliers in the game until their offense started getting going in the fourth quarter. And it was the UVA defense that got the winning score with a safety with 2:45 remaining in the game. The Cavaliers defense also had a sack, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, and six pass breakups.

WST 20, UVA 22With Washington State backed up to their own one-yard line, the Cougars tried to run the ball to get some breathing room, but the Virginia defense got penetration and was able to hold the runner in the end zone for a safety. The safety gave UVA their first lead of the game, and it also meant they got the ball back with just 2:45 left in the fourth quarter. WAS 59, WST 24On a night when Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord set the single-season ACC passing yards record, the QB also capped his phenomenal season with 453 yards and 5 touchdown passes to lead the Orange to a 52-35 win over Washington State in the DirecTV Holiday Bowl. Syracuse Running Back LeQuint Allen rushed for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns and caught 3 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown as well. Tight End Oronde Gadsden II caught 2 of McCord’s TD passes and Trebor Pena caught the remaining 2, including a 45-yarder. The Orange defense picked off Washington State quarterback Zevi Eckhaus twice in the game as well. Syracuse finishes the season with 10 wins in head coach Fran Brown’s first season.
