Bombers name Hall defensive coordinator

Jan 20, 2015 - 4:08 PM Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have named Richie Hall their new defensive coordinator.

Hall spent the past four seasons in the same role with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"Richie Hall has been around our game for almost three decades," said Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea. "He knows the league, he understands opposition offenses, and how to adjust when needed. He's highly respected, and brings another winning element to our organization. Acquiring him to lead our defense is major coup for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers."

Hall helped Saskatchewan to a Grey Cup title in 2013 with the CFL's top-ranked defensive unit, posting a league-low 398 points allowed.

"This is an amazing opportunity for me as a coach and as a person," said Hall. "For years, I have been in this league and watched from afar the passion the city and province have for the Blue Bombers. They really deserve to have a winning football team and all of us on the defensive side of the ball will do everything we can to make that happen."

Hall spent nine seasons as a defensive back with Calgary and Saskatchewan, winning a Grey Cup championship in 1989 with the Riders.
