QB Calvillo returning to Alouettes

Feb 10, 2009 - 9:03 PM MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Quarterback Anthony Calvillo, the 2008 CFL Most Outstanding Player, confirmed Tuesday that he will be returning to the Montreal Alouettes for the 2009 season.

Calvillo made the announcement after learning that his wife, Alexia, is in remission from her B-cell lymphoma.

"There are so many people who have showed us support throughout this overwhelming experience," said the 36-year-old Calvillo, who signed a one contract that includes a club option for 2010.

Slated to become a free agent next week, Calvillo led the CFL in completions (472) and attempts (682) last season while finishing second in passing yards (5,633).

He led Montreal to a first-place finish in the East Division and a berth in the Grey Cup, where the Alouettes lost to Calgary, 22-14.

"Montreal is home," he said. "This is where my family is, this is where I built my career, this is where my team is and this is where my fans are."
