Argos sign QB Joseph to extension

Feb 20, 2009 - 5:51 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Kerry Joseph will be the quarterback of the Toronto Argonauts for at least two more seasons.

Not looking to make a change under center, the Argos signed Joseph to a contract extension through 2010 on Friday.

Joseph started 17 games for the Argos this past season, passing for 4,174 yards with 17 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He became the first Argo quarterback since Damon Allen in 2005 to throw for at least 4,000 yards in a season.

"I feel great about this extension," said Joseph, the 2007 CFL Most Outstanding Player. "I'm really happy to have a couple more years in Toronto. I feel the organization is going in the right direction and it's exciting to be part of."

Argos coach Bart Andrus also is happy to see Joseph returning.

"We are pleased to extend Kerry," Andrus said. "He's a proven player in the CFL and developed into our offensive leader last season. We think Kerry's leadership will be very positive for our football team for the 2009 season and beyond."
