Pirates agree to contracts with LHP Gonzalez, OF Nady
Jan 16, 2007 - 7:19 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided arbitration with lefthander Mike Gonzalez and outfielder Xavier Nady by agreeing to one-year contracts Tuesday.Financial terms were not disclosed.
In his first season as the club's closer, Gonzalez posted a 3-4 record with 24 saves and a 2.17 ERA in 54 games. He struck out 64 in 54 innings, holding the opposition to a .213 batting average.
Acquired at the July 31 trade deadline from the New York Mets, Nady batted .300 with three homers and 23 RBI in 55 games with the Pirates last season. He hit .264 with 14 homers and 40 RBI in 75 games for the Mets.
