Pirates sign Carrasco to minor league contract
Jan 16, 2010 - 6:05 PM PITTSBURGH(AP) -- Right-handed reliever D.J. Carrasco has signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates after the Chicago White Sox declined to offer him a contract.Carrasco, 32, led all AL relievers with 89 1/3 innings pitched while going 5-1 with a 3.76 ERA in 49 games last season. Right-hander Brian Bass, second among AL relievers with 86 1/3 innings pitched for Baltimore, signed previously with the Pirates.
Carrasco was in the Pirates' organization for three seasons before being drafted by Kansas City in 2002.
The Pirates have invited 20 non-roster players to spring training, which begins Feb. 18.
