White Sox OF Mitchell to have ankle surgery

Mar 13, 2010 - 10:07 PM GLENDALE, Ariz.(AP) -- Chicago White Sox outfielder Jared Mitchell is going to have surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left ankle.

The team said on Saturday that the operation is set for Tuesday.

Mitchell was injured while making a catch in a spring training game Friday. He left the game on a cart after crashing hard into the wall at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The 21-year-old Mitchell, a first-round draft pick of the White Sox last June, will be evaluated Monday and have surgery at an outpatient medical center in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The club won't have a timetable for his recovery until after the surgery.
