Pirates keep eight relievers for wild card game
Oct 1, 2014 - 4:35 PM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates will have eight available pitchers to back up starter Edinson Volquez for Wednesday's National League wild card game against the San Francisco Giants.Jeff Locke and Vance Worley, both starters during the season, will be ready for long duty if Volquez struggles, while the remainder of the bullpen will consist of John Holdzkom, Jared Hughes, Bobby LaFromboise, Tony Watson, Justin Wilson and closer Mark Melancon.
The Pirates will keep three catchers for the game, as Chris Stewart and Tony Sanchez will back up Russell Martin.
Infielders include Josh Harrison, Jordy Mercer, Neil Walker, Gaby Sanchez, Ike Davis, Clint Barmes and Brent Morel. Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, Jose Tabata, Travis Snider, Gregory Polanco and Andrew Lambo are the outfielders for Clint Hurdle's team.
The Pirates can change the roster for the Division Series if they win Wednesday.
