McGehee, Young earn Comeback POY Awards

Nov 7, 2014 - 6:47 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Miami Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee and Seattle Mariners pitcher Chris Young have been named the Comeback Players of the Year for the 2014 season.

McGehee returned to the major leagues after a one-year stint in Japan and batted .287 with four home runs, 29 doubles and 76 RBI in 160 games for the Marlins.

The 32-year-old veteran ranked fourth in the National League with a career- high 177 hits and led all players at his position in the Senior Circuit with a .979 fielding percentage.

Young, 35, made 29 starts and one relief appearance this past season following an injury-plagued 2013 campaign in which he was limited to nine minor league outings.

The oft-injured Young compiled a 12-9 record with a 3.65 earned run average with the Mariners. The right-hander matched his career high in wins set in 2005 with Texas, and the 29 starts were his most since he made 30 in 2007 with San Diego.
