Dec 3, 2014 - 12:38 PM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners have finalized a seven- year contract with third baseman Kyle Seager. The deal runs through the 2021 season and includes a club option for 2022.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but reports last week indicated it to be worth $100 million.
"I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity that the Seattle Mariners have given me," said Seager in a statement. "This is an amazing honor for me and my family to remain with such a great organization for the foreseeable future."
Seager led the Mariners with 25 home runs and 96 runs batted in last season. He batted .268 in 159 games and was named to the All-Star team for the first time while also earning his first Gold Glove.
"As one of our homegrown players it is nice to know that he will remain with us for at least seven more seasons," said Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik. "Kyle has taken a step forward each season since joining the organization in 2009, and has turned into one of the premier third baseman in the game. He has exhibited class both on and off the field and is someone we are all extremely proud of. We are very pleased to announce this joint commitment by the Seattle Mariners and Kyle Seager as we strive toward our goal of winning a world championship."
Seager was selected in the third round of the 2009 draft and made his debut with the Mariners on July 7, 2011. He has appeared in 520 of the club's last 540 games since August 2011.
The 27-year-old native of North Carolina has 67 home runs and 251 RBI with a .262 batting average since the start of the 2012 season, his first full year in the big leagues.
