Nationals avoid arbitration with Ramos, Stammen

Jan 16, 2015 - 2:09 AM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals agreed to terms on one-year contracts with catcher Wilson Ramos and right-handed pitcher Craig Stammen on Thursday, avoiding arbitration.

Ramos will earn $3.55 million in 2015 after hitting .267 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI in 88 games last season. He has clubbed 46 homers with 173 RBI over his five-year career.

Stammen, who signed for $2.25 million for the upcoming season, compiled a 4-5 record with a 3.84 ERA in 49 games out of the bullpen in 2014 for Washington. For his career, the 30-year-old has gone 26-24 with a 3.94 ERA in 224 games over six seasons with the Nationals.

The signing of Stammen comes a day after the Nationals sent longtime reliever Tyler Clippard to the Oakland A's in exchange for infielder Yunel Escobar.

Washington has six available players eligible for arbitration, with starting pitchers Stephen Strasburg and Doug Fister highlighting the list.
