Red Sox DH Ortiz sets doubles records

Sep 28, 2007 - 11:39 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz doubled in the first inning Friday against the Minnesota Twins to break Edgar Martinez's single-season record for two-base hits by a designated hitter.

Ortiz has hit 52 doubles this season, with 51 coming while serving as the DH.

He is batting .331 with 34 homers, 116 RBI and 115 runs scored. The four-time All-Star's 52 doubles ties him with the Detroit Tigers' Magglio Ordonez for tops in the major leagues.
