Boston Red Sox

Team Report

The Red Sox have now defeated the Angels in the ALDS in three of
their last four postseason appearances, going 9-1 against them
during that span. The previous two times, they went on to win
the World Series. ... With his seven shutout innings on Monday,
LHP Jon Lester set a new division-series record for most innings
pitched without allowing an earned run. He threw 14 innings
this series, with an unearned run the only damage against him.
The previous record was held by another Red Sox postseason star.
RHP Pedro Martinez tossed 10 innings without an earned run in
the 1999 ALDS. ... CF Jacoby Ellsbury drove in another run on
Monday, giving him six this postseason. That is tied for the
major-league lead with Los Angeles Dodgers 1B James Loney. ...
Prior to the game, 3B Mike Lowell was replaced on the ALDS
roster by SS Gil Velazquez. Lowell has a torn labrum in his
right hip and has been trying to play through the pain, but was
0-for-8 this series and visibly hobbled by the injury. The 2007
World Series MVP will now be ineligible for the ALCS because he
was placed on the disabled list in the middle of a series. He
may, however, return for the World Series should the Red Sox
make it. ... In his absence on Monday, Kevin Youkilis moved from
first base to third and Mark Kotsay started at first.
