Red Sox DH Ortiz undergoes knee surgery
Nov 6, 2007 - 9:37 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday.The operation was performed by team medical director Dr. Thomas Gill at Massachusetts General Hospital. The Red Sox expect Ortiz, who turns 32 on November 18, to be healthy and ready for spring training in 2008.
Although he was hampered by his balky knee throughout the season, Ortiz enjoyed an outstanding 2007 campaign for the World Series champion Red Sox, batting a career-high .332 with 35 home runs and 117 RBI in 149 games.
It marked the fifth consecutive season that Ortiz has eclipsed 30 homers and 100 RBI.
