Pirates sign OF Nady

Jan 18, 2008 - 10:23 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms with outfielder Xavier Nady and lefthander John Grabow on one-year contracts, avoiding arbitration.

Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on its web site that Nady will make $3.35 million. Grabow is scheduled to make $1.13 million.

The 29-year-old Nady hit .278 with 20 home runs and 72 RBI in 125 games last season.

Nady was acquired from the New York Mets for Oliver Perez and Roberto Hernandez in 2006 and finished that campaign with 17 home runs and 63 RBI in 130 games.

A six-year veteran, Nady has hit .272 with 62 home runs and 226 RBI in 524 career games with San Diego, New York and Pittsburgh.

Grabow, 29, went 3-2 with one save and a 4.53 ERA in 63 games last season. A fifth-year pro, Grabow has a career mark of 11-12 with a 4.61 ERA in 271 games with Pittsburgh.
