White Sox DH Thome suspended for one game

Apr 15, 2008 - 5:00 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Chicago White Sox designated hitter Jim Thome was suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers, MLB announced on Tuesday.

Thome was ejected in the fifth inning of a 5-2 loss to Detroit, arguing a called third strike on a 3-2 pitch that appeared low.

The veteran is not expected to appeal the decision, settling to serve the suspension in Tuesday's finale of a short, two-game series with the Oakland Athletics.

Thome, who is batting .156 with two homers and seven RBI in 12 games, was expected to get the day off prior to the suspension, as the A's have lefthander Dana Eveland on the mound.
