Matsuzaka joins rare club with win over Tigers
May 6, 2008 - 8:04 PM By PA SportsTickerBoston Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka on Monday beat the Detroit Tigers, 6-3, despite becoming just the eighth starting pitcher this decade to walk as many as eight batters and still record a win.
Only one pitcher this decade, Florida Marlins righthander A.J. Burnett, has won a start in which he allowed more than eight walks.
Matsuzaka now has something in common with teammate Tim Wakefield, who walked a total of 28 batters over three winning starts in April 1993 for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Below is a list of all starting pitchers since 1980 who have walked nine or more batters in a winning start.
