Matsuzaka to have MRI on ailing shoulder

May 29, 2008 - 4:12 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Boston Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka will accompany the team to Baltimore on Wednesday night before traveling on to Boston to undergo tests on his ailing shoulder.

Matsuzaka was lifted from a start in the fifth inning on Tuesday with what the team termed "shoulder fatigue."

He will visit with team doctors and undergo an MRI in Boston.

The Red Sox have not said that Matsuzaka will miss a start, although the club has listed TBA as the probable pitcher for Monday's game, which would be the Japanese hurler's turn in the rotation.

Should he not be able to take his turn, Boston could activate Clay Buchholz from the disabled list or recall Justin Masterson for his third career start.
