Ortiz out of Red Sox lineup

Jun 2, 2008 - 9:20 PM BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will miss Monday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after undergoing an MRI on his injured left wrist.

Ortiz injured his wrist while swinging at a pitch during the ninth inning of Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Orioles.

Saying he felt a "pop" in his wrist, Ortiz underwent X-rays, which were negative, and had an ice pack on his wrist the following day. The slugger did not play in Boston's 9-4 triumph Sunday.

After flying back to Boston on Monday, Ortiz had the wrist examined by team physicians. No results from the MRI were immediately available.

Ortiz, 32, is batting .252 with team highs of 13 home runs and 43 RBI this season for the reigning World Series champion Red Sox. The four-time All-Star underwent surgery this past offseason to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
