Mariners place P Putz on DL

Jun 13, 2008 - 7:48 PM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners placed closer J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a sore right elbow.

It is the second stint on the DL this season for Putz, who missed 20 days from April 2-21 with a muscle strain in his right rib cage.

Putz had left Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the top of the ninth inning after throwing 11 pitches. He underwent an MRI on Thursday, which revealed no ligament damage.

The 31-year-old Putz is just 2-3 with seven saves this season, posting a 5.21 ERA. He went 6-1 with a 1.38 ERA and 40 saves for the Mariners last season.

Taking Putz's roster spot will be Roy Corcoran, who was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma. Corcoran has appeared in eight games for Seattle this season, allowing two runs in 10 2/3 innings.
