White Sox place Konerko on DL

Jun 17, 2008 - 6:23 PM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox placed first baseman Paul Konerko on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left oblique.

It is the first career trip to the DL for Konerko, who was injured prior to Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

Konerko, 32, was batting just .215 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 62 games this season.

To fill the first baseman's roster spot, the White Sox purchased the contract of outfielder DeWayne Wise from Class AAA Charlotte.

Wise is batting .319 with nine home runs in 55 games with Charlotte this season and went 0-for-5 with Chicago earlier this season.
