Nationals place RHP Hill on DL, activate LHP Perez

Jun 26, 2008 - 3:51 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Nationals made a switch in their rotation on Thursday, dropping Shawn Hill and replacing him with Odalis Perez.

Hill, 27, was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, with a right forearm strain. The righthander lasted just three innings in his last start on Tuesday, giving up eight runs - six earned - and eight hits.

Hill is 1-5 with 5.83 ERA in 12 starts this season.

The lefthanded Perez had been sidelined since June 11 with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. The 30-year-old will start the opener of Washington's interleague series with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.

Perez is 2-5 with a 4.09 ERA in 13 starts this season.

Also, the Nationals transferred first baseman Nick Johnson to the 60-day disabled list following wrist surgery. Johnson underwent the operation on Tuesday to repair a small split tear in the ligament on the ulnar side of his right wrist.
