Twins place OF Cuddyer on DL

Jun 29, 2008 - 7:33 PM MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Twins on Sunday placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the 15-day disabled list - retroactive to Saturday - with a strained tendon in his left index finger.

Cuddyer, who was not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, said the finger has been bothering him for a couple of weeks, but it was worse when he awoke on Saturday morning.

Cuddyer is batting .252 with three home runs and 35 RBI this season for the Twins, who had their 10-game winning streak snapped Saturday.

To take his spot on the roster, the Twins recalled outfielder Denard Span, 24, from Class AAA Rochester of the International League.

In 39 games with Rochester, Span batted .342 with three home runs and 14 RBI. During an earlier stint with Minnesota in April, Span appeared in 11 games, hitting .258 with two RBI. He is expected to be available for Monday night's contest against the Detroit Tigers.
