Red Sox OF Drew named Player of the Month
Jul 2, 2008 - 6:20 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew on Wednesday was named the American League Player of the Month for June.In 26 games in June, Drew batted .337 (31-for-92) with 12 homers and tied for the major league lead with 29 RBI. The veteran also scored 27 runs and had a ML-best .848 slugging percentage.
It marked the first career monthly award for Drew, who is batting .299 with 16 homers and 50 RBI on the season.
Others considered for the award were Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler and outfielders David DeJesus and Jose Guillen of the Kansas City Royals.
