Marlins SS Ramirez sits out Sunday
Jul 13, 2008 - 8:17 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez will sit out Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers for precautionary reasons after being taken out with soreness in his right shoulder on Saturday in the first inning."I'm OK," said Ramirez, who claimed he hurt his shoulder, though not seriously, on the throw he made on Nomar Garciaparra's ground ball, according to the Miami Herald.
The throw sailed wide of Mike Jacobs, enabling Garciaparra to reach on what the scorer ruled as a base hit. Garciaparra ended up scoring in the inning.
The 24-year-old Ramirez, who was selected as the National League's starting shortstop for Tuesday's All-Star Game, leads the Marlins with a .311 batting average and 23 home runs in 93 games this season.
