Red Sox DH Ortiz to begin rehab

Jul 17, 2008 - 9:54 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will begin his rehab Thursday with Class AAA Pawtucket.

Ortiz has been on the disabled list since June 3 with a partially torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, sustained on a swing on May 31 in Baltimore.

The slugger is expected to be in the lineup for Pawtucket for three games and then play for Class AA Portland for three more before joining Boston on July 25.

Ortiz is batting .252 with 13 homers and 43 RBI in 54 games with the Red Sox this season.
